Today with Jesus

Desperate for Healing

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"There was a woman in the crowed who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years." (Mark 5:25)

Discussion

Are you in desperation to be loved and to be cured?

12 years of clinics, treatments, herbs, prayer meetings and incantations but no cure. "She had suffered a great deal from many doctors through the years" (Mark 5:26). Did the doctors who treated her, did not treat the disease but took advantage of her? In fact, she was in worse condition. No health, no money, unclean according to the law of Moses and no family to help.

She was desperate. And her desperation births an idea. She heard about Jesus. "If I can touch his clothing I will be healed." She touched it. Immediately the bleeding stopped. She is healed. Still resurrected Christ is here. Are you desperate, dirty and drained? Yours is the hand Jesus loves to hold and heal.

Rev. Fr. C.A. Abraham was once one of the best voices in Syrian hymns and Holy Qurbana. He studied under late Mor Julius Bava in Manjinikara. He had served in a number of leading churches in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu as vicar. He volunteered and served in several orphanages. Unfortunately, he became addicted to drinks and other vices. All the churches, people, and the ecclesiastical orders kicked him out from their premises just like an animal and a pariah. At last, he was thrown out on one of the streets in Chennai in 2001. Even one of the leaders of the church said that it was better if he was dead.

Some people in the church in Chennai saw him on the street and they volunteered to take care of him. They literally picked him up from the street, and nursed, cared, loved, respected, and treated him well. Then, for five long years, he served in St. Thomas home for the destitute and assisted in St. Thomas Jacobite Syrian orthodox church in Chennai as a priest with full dignity. He had breathed his last in peace in the presence of a number of good Samaritans as a fully repented saint. At last he got a royal priestly burial.

" The son of man… feasts and drinks, and you say,' He's glutton and drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!.' But wisdom is shown to be right by its results." (Mathew 11:19)

Prayer

Jesus, you came to the earth to find the lost and to save them. You save the people from their desperation.. We pray for those who are in dire need in desperation, in sickness, in marginalization, in loneliness, and in separation. We ask this in the name of Jesus.

Amen.
