Rejoice in the Lord - Phil. 3:1 & 4:4-7

Phil. 3: 1: Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.

Phil. 4:4-7: Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice! Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit). The Lord is near [He is coming soon]. Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Let us note that these seven things belong together:

rejoicing in the Lord
gentleness
being anxious for nothing
prayer
supplication
thanksgiving
peace of God

The emphasis is on: 'rejoice in the Lord.'

Once when a believer was in much grief, a friend exhorted him: 'Friend, rejoice in the Lord.' This exhortation, though unexpected at the moment, helped him, and remained with him over the years.

May every anxious thought drive me into your arms, O God, and not to stress or worry.

Thanksgiving: This seems to be the seed of joyfulness. We may give thanks in adversity, saying, Lord, this situation is for your glory, and for my eternal good. I give thanks. When we pray thus, God's peace shall garrison and mount guard over our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. God's peace protects our life, and keeps us in fellowship with the God of peace.

Lord, I pray you for your peace.
