Leadership

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example." (1 Peter 5:3)

Discussion

Are you suffering because of bad leadership?

Leadership in temporal and spiritual realms is assigned by God to human beings to serve His people in submission with the Creator. Rotten, corrupted,, autocratic, imbecile and immoral leaders call for God’s wrath and music of the people. Parents in homes, spiritual leaders in churches, political rulers in the country, are all accountable and answerable to God and to his subjects for all their actions and words. Corrupted lots should be overthrown by the collective consciences and actions of the people concurrent with the eternal principles. Just like Jesus had driven away the corrupted shylock-like money mongers from the temple precincts, the subjects have the divine mandate to fight against the abused leadership in all realms. Prayer, fasting and peaceful actions are the weapons in the hands of people to do the historic heroic act. 30 years of brutal, autocratic rule of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt has ended in 18 days of peaceful , disciplined standoff protest by hundreds and thousands of people, after breaking the psychological fears on the street, and by using the modern social medias, face book, internet, mobile and tweeter. It is a warning to corrupt leadership in homes, churches and the civil societies. “When there is a moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily: but with honest, sensible leaders, there is stability” (Proverbs 28:2).

The testimony of a woman said, "Father is not a nice word to me. On Sunday, our pastor spoke about Jesus and his relationship with the father and how that mirrors our relationship with him. It was a hard sermon for me and I did end up crying a little… It’s also very hard for me to see God as a loving father since my own father set such a bad example. I love the Lord with all my heart but I don’t like to call him father since that is still a bad word in my vocabulary… May be some day, I will be able to call him father, but I don’t feel I can right now.” Joyce Mayer, the televangelist sirens to the world in all her speeches and writings about the abuse of her father and how she had broken that relation. What a shame to the father?
"If your Lord and teacher, has washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you" (John 13:14,15). How are we doing as parents, spiritual and temporal authorities?

Prayer

Jesus, give us good parents and rulers. We pray for those who fight against corrupt leadership. Let us be an example to our children and people. We pray for the voiceless living under draconian corrupt leadership. All we ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
