Gaining Peace

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you are called to peace. And always be thankful." (Colossians 3:15)

Discussion

We should live in peace and work for peace. The blessed are those who make peace. We are living in a world where there is no peace. Peace start from the soul. Our heart is the center of conflict because there our feelings and desires clash - our fears and hopes, distrust and trust, jealousy and love. How can we deal with these constant conflicts and live as God wants us live? We must decide between conflicting elements by using the rule of peace. Which choice will promote peace in our souls and in our homes and churches? God’s peace is different from world’s peace. True peace is not found in positive thinking, in absence of conflict, or in good feelings. It comes from knowing that God is in control. Choose God’s way. Then your life will enjoy God's peace.

Five siblings had one cent of land on the side of a highway, inherited from their parents. All of them had their grand children and had other property and were reasonably well off. In spite of that each had its own agenda in getting share of this property and each one was thinking how to get a bigger share. No one was ready to sign the documents of sale till the problem of sharing was solved. It led to a great commotion in the registrar office. Then one of the brothers stood and said he was ready to give his share to others. That was agreed by all and the problem was solved, in peace.

One man’s choice of peace through sacrifice brought peace. Are we ready to do that just like our forefather Abraham did it with his brother Lot? One man's death on Cross brought peace with God. So follow Jesus' ways to bring peace.

Prayer

Lord, we are living in a world of unrest and enmity. We want peace in our mind, family and in the church and our working places. Give us your spirit of peace to choose the way of peace instead of strife. This we ask in the name of Jesus.

Amen.
