Love is the Greatest Thing in Life

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"God is love, and all who live in love, live in God and God lives in them.” (1 John 4:16)

Discussion

The greatest thing in life - LOVE.

All life is love-bound. True love starts from thyself. There is nothing bad or ugly in the creation of human beings. So what we are, in essence, is love. God commanded us to love others as we love ourselves.

James 2:8 - “If you really keep the royal law found in scripture, “Love your neighbour as yourself; you are doing right.”

We love everything material and non-material, Gods and Goddesses, our jobs, animals, birds, plants, land, money, power, beauty, travel, electronics, but human beings. God’s order is, "If people say, “I love God,” but hate their brothers and sisters, then they are liars.

1 John 4:19 - "Those who do not love their brothers and sisters whom they have seen, cannot love God.”

In the name of God, we see all kinds of miracles, healings of the sick, apocalypse prophesying, captivating sermons and talks, rituals and ceremonies except love of human beings . This kind of world is really sick and treatment is highly recommended.

1 Corinthians 13:8 - “Love never ends. There are gifts of prophesy, but they will be ended.”

Only three things are forever

1 Corinthians 13:13 - “So these three things continue forever: faith, hope and love. And the greatest of these is love.”

Simon, a taxi driver in New York was once the owner of 16 cars with Rolls Royce motors and working 18 hours a day. He was too busy and did not spend much time with his family. His two daughters are married and have kids. Then he went for a triple by-pass surgery. He says, "There I was, on the operating table, when I rang up my business partner and sold the whole bloody lot to him. I said, 'good riddance’. Now I’m nothing. But thanks to the triple by-pass surgery, I’m a happy man.” He continues, ”Now I’ve seen more blue sky, more sunshine, more beauty and more green fields. I see everything differently now.” He advices, “Wake up every day and ask yourself, ‘What is important?’ Never ever forget what’s important. My only goal every day is to know what’s important and then take care of it. Life is too short otherwise.” WELL, IT’S LOVE, ISN'T IT? LOVE IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT.”

69 rich people in USA have pledged to part 50% of their income and wealth at present and in the future for charity, and this is headed by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, the richest men in the world who find happiness in doing charity than being the CEOs of their companies.

Prayer

Jesus, we thank you for your love. Let us be grateful to you by loving our neighbors as you have commanded. Let our homes, churches, and surroundings radiate with the light of love and sharing. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
