Wonders, Signs and Miracles

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

"Many wonders and signs were done through the apostles." (Acts 2:43)

Discussion

Do you believe that there is still room for miracles in this 21st century?

I believe in miracles. Miracles show the power of God over nature and we see them in many different ways. It's supernatural. It's not magic and has a real and long standing effect. So don't try to manipulate God by asking for signs. God is always actively involved in the needs of his children. If God is ready to do miracles, who are we to restrict His love and powers? By our disbelief, we close the door to God from intervening with signs and wonders.

Bible says, "My thoughts are not yours and your ways are not mine" (Isaiah 55:8). We should allow Jesus a free ride in our lives to experience his miracles. A miracle is really an expression of Jesus' love. In the name of miracles, we see a number of gimmicks performed by fake healers and evangelists whose aim is to make money. We should discern them. We know them through the fruits that they produce and soon, they will fade away from the stage.

A village was completely flooded by a downpour of continuous rain and people were drowning. Mother Teresa asked her novices to pray to stop the rain and save the people. "The novices are very earnest. They pray with energy. It will be a strong expression," said the Mother. "So we put them, 178 of them, in the Church of our Mission. It was heavily raining outside when they began to pray, and I bought out the Blessed Sacrament. After a while, I went to the door of the church and looked out. The rain had stopped and there was a patch of clear sky above us. Yes, I believe in miracles."

Jesus is still alive. His power never diminishes. He runs his Church miraculously by signs and wonders of his love. With fasts and prayers and will full belief, ask Him to intervene in the dire needs of our beloved ones. Trust me, we will be able to witness miracles in this century too - the same way as it had happened in the first century.

Prayer

Jesus, You never stand as an onlooker to the needs of your children. You are very sensitive to the aspirations of your people. You always help them. Today, we ask your miraculous active intervention to the dire needs of our brothers and sisters. We ask this in the name of Jesus.

Amen.
