Today with Jesus

Words and Deeds

by Rev. Fr. V.V. Paulose, Toronto, Canada

Today's Bible Verse

“I don’t know whether he is a sinner. But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see.” ( John 9:25 )

Discussion

The man who was blind from birth was healed by Jesus. The learned religious people conducted investigations and debated about Jesus and his healings. They questioned the blind man over and over. He did not know how or why he was healed. But he knew that his life had been miraculously changed. Now he is not afraid to tell the truth. You don’t need to know all the answers in order to share Christ with others. It is important to tell them how he has changed your life. Then trust God, he will use your words to help others believe in him. Intellectual exercises never expand the kingdom of God. That never help people in any way except inflation of their own egos. It is time to seek more hearts than brains.

In 1976, Billy Graham and Former president of USA Jimmy Carter went for a bible convention. Both spoke eloquently about Christ. Then a truck driver came to the stage. He almost mumbled in to the microphone, and said, “ I was drunk, and didn’t have any friends. The only people I knew were men like me who hung around the bars in the town where I lived.” Then some one told about Christ and His love. He changed. The only places he felt at ease were bar rooms and he began to talk to customers there. The bartender told him that he was ruining his business and should find some other place to make a nuisance of himself. But he persisted, and eventually the folks in the bar got attracted to hear from him about Jesus. "At first they treated me like joke. Later 14 of my friends became Christians.” That 5 minutes fumbling statement of the truck driver was the best speech in that convention.

Our life should be our message. That is the best evangelization. Word has never taken flesh if our speech is not in concurrence with our life.

Prayer

Jesus, you took human flesh to save us. You saved us from our fears and sins. Thank you Jesus. Let our lives be consistent with our speech. Let us be the doers of your words. Give us the courage, without any shyness, to be witness for you in front of our friends and enemies. We ask this in the name of Jesus.

Amen.
